The Fembassy Releases Trailer for Debut Film, “Turn Me Up” and Launches Indie Go Go Campaign
For the past four years TheFembassy.com has exclusively documented female MCs. In an attempt to share what has been documented, a film is in the works. Today The Fembassy releases the trailer for its documentary, “Turn Me Up”, directed by Glennisha Morgan. The film chronicles numerous underground and independent women emcees from the West Coast, East Coast, Midwest and South. “Turn Me Up” captures the trials and tribulations of artists such as Brooklyn’s Siya, Los Angeles’ Raven Sorvino, Detroit’s Mae Day, Invincible and Miz Korona, Houston’s IB, and more. The artists each share the highlights of their career, the stigmatisms of being a woman MC and how they just want to be heard. In addition to releasing the trailer today, The Fembassy will also be launching an Indie Go Go campaign to raise funds to complete the film. This film will be released in the Spring of 2013. “If I could describe this film in one word, I would describe it as raw. There has been many conversations in regards to women in Hip Hop, but until now I have yet to hear the women in the trenches be so unapologetic and brutually honest about their sentiments,” says director Glennisha Morgan.
The trailer will be premiered on TheFembassy.com at 8AM EST and can also be viewed here:
